Do You Hear What I Hear

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you See what I See?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you See what I See?
A Star, a Star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you Hear what I Hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you Hear what I Hear?
A Song, a Song high above the trees
With a Voice as big as the Sea
With a Voice as big as the Sea."

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty King,
"Do you Know what I Know?
In your palace warm, mighty King,
Do you Know what I Know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him Silver and Gold,
Let us bring him Silver and Gold."

Said the King to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for Peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us Goodness and Light,
He will bring us Goodness and Light."

FAME AND FORTUNE
Fame and Fortune
Fame and Fortune
We're off to seek them now.

Anyone can have them both,
It just takes the right know-how.

We put on our traveling shoes today.
We won't stop until we find the way.

To Fame and Fortune
Fame and Fortune
They will be ours someday.

Fame and Fortune
Fame and Fortune
They will be ours someday.

First Christmas
This day a year ago, he was rolling in the snow with a younger brother in his father's yard
Christmas break, a time for touching home, the heart of all he'd known and leaving was so hard.

Three thousand miles away, now he's working Christmas Day
Making double time for the minding of the store
Well he always said, he'd make it on his own
He's spending Christmas Eve alone
First Christmas away from home

She's standing by the train station, pan-handling for change
Four more dollars buys a decent meal and a room
Looks like the Sally Ann place after all,
In a crowded sleeping hall that echoes like a tomb

But it's warm and clean and free, and there are worse places to be
At least it means no beating from her Dad
And if she cries because it's Christmas Day
She hopes that it won't show
First Christmas away from home

In the apartment stands a tree, and it looks so small and bare
not like it was meant to be,
Golden Angel on the top
It's not the same old silver star, you wanted for your own
First Christmas away from home

In the morning, they get prayers, then it's crafts and the tea downstairs
Then another meal back in his little room
Hoping maybe that "The Boys" will think to phone before the day is gone
Well, it's best they do it soon

When the "Old Girl" passed away, he fell apart more every day
Each had al;ways kept the other pretty well
But the kids all said the nursing home was best cause he couldn't live alone
First Christmas away from home

In the common room they've got the biggest tree and it's huge and cold and lifeless
Not like it ought to be, and the lit-up flashing Santa Claus on top it's not that same old silver star, you once made for your own
First Christmas away from home.

Stan Rogers, 1979, on between the Breaks

Frosty The Snowman

Frosty the snowman was a Jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head he began to dance around.
O, Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty Thump Thump,
thumpetty thump thump,
Look at Frosty go,
over the hills of snow.

Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day,
So he said, "Let's run and we'll have some fun now before I melt away."
Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand, running here and there all around the square saying, Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler, "Stop!"
For Frosty the snowman had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying, "Don't you cry, I'll be back again some day."
Thumpetty Thump Thump,
thumpetty thump thump,
Look at Frosty go,
over the hills of snow.

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walkin home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she's left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.
When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walkin home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
Drinkin' beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.
It's not Christmas without Grandma
All the family's dressed in black.

And we just can't help but wonder;
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walkin home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.

"I've warned all my friends and neighbours.
Better watch out for yourselves."
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walkin home from our house Christmas Eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

The Greatest Gift Of All

by John Jarvis

Dawn is slowly breaking
Our friends have all gone home
You and I are waiting
For Santa Claus to come

There's a present by the tree
Stockings on the wall
Knowing you're in love with me
Is the greatest gift of all

The fire is slowly fading
Chill is in the air
All the gifts are waiting
For children ev'rywhere

Through the window I can see
Snow begin o fall
Knowing you're in love with me
Is the greatest gift of all

Just before I go to sleep
I hear a church bell ring
Merry Christmas ev'ryone
Is the song it sings

So I say a silent prayer
For creatures great and small
Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men
Is the greatest gift of all
Peace on Earth Good will to Men
Is the greatest gift of all

GreenSleeves
What child is this, who, lay to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While Shepards watch are keeping

Chorus:
This, this is Christ the King
Who Shepards guard and angels sing
Haste, Haste, to bring him laud,
The babe, the son of Mary

Why lies he is such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear; for sinners
here the silent Word is pleading

Chorus
Version 2
Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously
For I have Loved you well and long,
Delighting in our company

Greensleeves was all my Joy

Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady greensleeves

Your vows you've broken, like my heart,
Oh why did you so enrapture me?
Now I remain in a world apart
But my heart remains in captivity

I have been ready at your hand,
To grant whatever you would crave,
I have both wagered life and land,
Your love and good-will for to have

If you intend thus to disdain,
It does the more enrapture me,
And even so, I still remain
A Lover in captivity

My men were clothed all in green,
And they did ever wait on thee;
All this was gallant to be seen,
And yet thou wouldst not Love me

Thou couldst desire no earthly thing,
But still thou hadst it readily
Thy music still to play and sing;
And yet thou wouldst not Love me

Well, Iwill pray to God on high,
that thou my constancy mayst see,
And that yet once before I did,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to Love me

Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu.
To God I pray to prosper thee,
For I am still thy Lover true,
Come once again and Love me.

GreenSleeves by William Chatterdon Dixs
Version 1 & 2

Good Christian Men, Rejoice
Good Christian Men, Rejoice,
With heart and soul, and voice;
Give ye heed to what we say
Jesus Christ is born to-day;
Ox and ass before him bow,
And he is in the manger now
Christ is born to-day!
Christ is born to-day!

Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul, and voice
Now ye hear of endless bliss;
Jesus Christ was born for this!
He hath oped the heavenly door,
And man is blessed evermore.
Christ was born for this!
Christ was born for this!

Good Christian men, rejoice,
with heart and soul, and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave;
Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all
To gain his everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save!
Christ was born to save!

GOD REST YE, MERRY GENTLEMEN

God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
remember Christ out Saviour was born on Christmas Day,
To save us all from Satan's pow'r when we
were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and Joy, comfort and Joy,
O tidings of comfort and Joy.

In Bethlehem, in Jewry,
This Blessed Babe was born, and laid within a manger
Up on this blessed morn,
The which his Mother Mary,
Did nothing take in scorn.
O tidings of comfort and Joy, comfort and Joy,
O tidings of comfort and Joy.

From God, our Heav'nly Father,
A blessed Angel came,
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought tidings of the same;
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
O tidings of comfort and Joy, comfort and Joy,
O tidings of comfort and Joy.

Fear not, then, said the Angel,
Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a Saviour,
Of a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan's power and might.
O tidings of comfort and Joy, comfort and Joy,
O tidings of comfort and Joy.

Now to the Lord sing praises,
All you within this place,
and with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace;
This Holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface.
O tidings of comfort and Joy, comfort and Joy,
O tidings of comfort and Joy.

This song first appeared in 1770, in a collection called "Roxburgh Ballads."
the title in this traditional English carol of unknow authorship means "God keep you, Gentlemen, in Merry Spirits"
Its melody was probably taken from a popular London street song of that time.

Good King Wenceslas
Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the Feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about, deep, and crisp, and even
brightly shone the moon that night, though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Gathering winter fuel

Hither page, and stand by me, If thou know'st it,
telling Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?
Sire, he lives a good league hence, Underneath the mountain,
Right against the forest fence,
By Saint Agnes' fountain.

Bring me flesh, and bring me wine,
Bring me pine-logs hither;
Thou and I will see him dine,
When we bear them thither.
Page and monarch, forth they went,
Forth they went together;
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather.

Sire, the night is darker now,
And the wind blows stronger'
Fails my heart, I know not how;
I can go no longer.
Mark my footsteps, my good page;
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly.

In his master's steps he trod,
Where the snow lay dinted;
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
Wealth or rank possessing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
Shall yourselves find blessing.

The melody was once an old spring carol that appeared in a Swedish-German hymn collection made by Martin Luther, Called "Diae Cantiones."
An English clergyman, the Rev. John Mason Neale, eliminated the latin verse and wrote the new lyric, basing it on one of the old Bohemian legends that surround the Good King to this day.

Go Tell It On The Mountain

When I was a seeker, I sought both night and day,
I sought the Lord to help me, and he showed me the way,
Oh Go tell it on the Mountain, over the hills and ev'rywhere,
Go tell it on the Mountain, that Jesus Christ is born!

He made me a watchman up on the city wall,
And if I am a Christain, I am the least of all,
Oh Go tell it on the Mountain, over the hills and ev'rywhere,
Go tell it on the Mountain, that Jesus Christ is born!
